About Me -- SoccerClub Drill Archive
Over the 12+ years that SoccerClub has been published, we have collected a good set of drills. Rather than try to build a fancy search database, it was decided that we would plug these into their own blog entries and let users search them using the search box at the top.
You can also email these to others and add comments. Of course, you should feel free to add your own blog entries or use the photo serve to post a diagram.
Thanks, and enjoy,
Tim McGuinness

The drill or I call a functional practice is actually called the "Four Goal Game". The main purpose is switching play from one side of the field to the other. If a player with the ball is prevented from moving forward, then he / she should turn with the ball with the objective of passing back to supporting players or by finding players who are in a better position to penetrate weaker areas of the field (preferably 2 v 1…

Field between 30 X 30 yard and 50 X 50. Split team/group in half (preferred) or thirds. Use 4 goals about 10 yds from the corner.

- A team can't score consecutively at the same goal.
- Scores can go through the goal from either direction, just make sure the pass is received and controlled to count.
- Possession changes…

I picked up a drill from another coach and thought it was pretty good. I used it this season to begin the season for my U8 team and it went very well. It's pretty simple, but you get 3 skills involved in one drill. The throw-in, trapping the ball, and dribbling.
You begin by having about half your kids along a sideline and half at a cone at about 10 o'clock about 8/10 yards away. Basically set up a triangle. Have the kids do a running throw-in from the sideline towards an imaginary…

Duration - 20 minutes; # of players - 12-16 (older); Goalies - Yes
Form a large circle of players about 5 yards apart. Every player is given a number that is exclusive to him/her. Start with the ball at player # 1. Player # 1 passes to player # 2 passes to player # 3 passes to player # 4 and so on. At this stage the ball simply travels around the circle until it reaches the last player who then passes the ball back to player # 1. Keep the ball moving around the circle, this is…
