Return to SC! Drills   Drills from www.SoccerClub.Com

Here's How To Chart It          For all ages, levels. Size of field: 8 players - 40 yds X 40 yds

Dribbling: Play ball into the middle player from side. Uncontested: Middle dribbles to outside player and then returns to middle to receive a pass from the clockwise outside player. Each outside player should use the ball that was dribbled to them. Contested: Middle player goes 1v1 with outside player, getting a point for stopping their dribble on the outside line. Then continue with the pass to middle.

Passing: Work on individual technical passes by rotating the middle as they pass outside. Then add in combinations -- middle to outside back to middle who rotates clockwise and passes to next outside person. As players abilities develop, add more difficult passes like chips, one touch, bending passes, and volleying. Use pylons or balls as obstacles.

Receiving: Make sure the receiver is technically correct and does not cheat. A) Arms extended B) Receive with nearest foot C) Keep head up D) Protect.

Ball Control: Same as above using passes above the ground. For younger players, since ball control is the key, you may want to use a smaller field and use hands to set up the ball control drills.

To Add Vision Drills: Have the outside players move on the sidelines.

Heading: Make outside attack and middle defense, then switch. Have attack drive passes to the partners feet by striking the top-half of ball. Have defense drive passes to the upwards by striking the bottom-half of ball while moving up and forward.

Teach Communication: Encourage communication between both partners ("BALL", "TURN", "OPEN", etc.) mix in the more than one player drills.

Good Warmup: 3 stages at 1 minute per

Stage 1: Repetition with same partner focusing on technique. With hips squared to partner.
Stage 2: Do with partner, then rotate. A) Moving the ball to outside, then middle rotates. B) Squares hips with next outside person, and C) Asks for the ball, "BALL!"
Stage 3: Receive the ball from partner, give to new partner. Can either show to a different player or receive from the last partner

Add-On...

This drill sounds pretty good, but, for a better result, limit the touches on the ball so they can learn the conept of touch and go. Otherwise they will continue to depend on the best players to make the runs. Also, encourage them to create even when they are off the ball.
